I'LL TAKE ONE TO GO
We must have hit half a dozen rest stops during the 6-hour drive from Tokyo to Kyoto this morning. I know I've mentioned it before, but I'm going to say it again: There's nothing more comforting than plunking your tush down on a heated toilet seat when it's 45 degrees out. Gas here isn't cheap, but if you've traveling with friends and splitting costs on cars and lodging, road tripping around Japan is not that bad.
Anyway, in addition to awesome bathrooms and vending machines that spit out fiery hot lattes, it’s pretty hard to say no to all the pastries and cookies staring you in the face. Driving on the "wrong" side of the road is a bit daunting and the language barrier is a small challenge, but I still think Japan has major #vanlife potential. If more people knew just how amazing the rest stops were, I think they'd be flocking here for monthlong road trips. Hmm, maybe I should keep this a secret...
Anyway, we weren’t sure what some of the baked goods contained, but the Waygo app on Callum’s phone gave us some assistance. I mean, how could anyone resist Master Trouble, Chocolate? It was like cocoa-infused angel food cake with chocolate chips, and even if we hadn't been able to decipher the characters on the label, I probably still would have bought it.
